ABOUT ME:

Hi, I’m Emileen!

Writer, Editor, Teacher, and Friend!

After more than 20 years leading Bible studies and discussion groups, I have come to love the moral and intellectual discipline that only the Holy Spirit gives — sustained by the redemptive power of God across generations.

My soul is truly fed with the close-reading approach that is called “inductive” study: reading the Bible for contexts and meanings, looking for history and interpretation, and then application.

Friends, the Bible shows us how to recognize which actions and beliefs will reflect — and increase — our faith in Jesus.

God can see our hearts and God understands our intentions; we’re only able to see how other people behave and speak — and we’re often not-so-perfect at understanding ourselves.

Our human-ness will naturally “judge the cover” — but there’s a Biblical way that instructs us how to do that!

So let’s learn how to point our best judgment in the best direction – God’s way.

(References: Romans 12:2; 1 Samuel 16:7; Matthew 7:1-5)

“And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”
(Philippians 1:9-11 ESV)

Judge The Cover has seven study goals:

Goal #1: Approach the Bible with an inductive practice.

Goal #2: Read the full text of the Bible itself.

Goal #3: Apply God’s logic to all areas of our lives.

Goal #4:  Obey God’s instructions for becoming more like Christ.

Goal #5:  Reflect Christ alone.

Goal #6: Share the Gospel and discuss what we’ve learned so far!
